Akhlāq is the plural form of khulq which comes from the same root as the word khalq. Khalq means “to create” or “creation.” God uses various terms in the Qur’an to refer to the act of creation. However, one of the most frequently used terms is khalq which is the root of the verb kha-la-qa. His names al-Khāliq (meaning the Creator) and al-Khallāq (meaning “the Creative” or “the One who creates
extensively”) come from the same root. This term also serves as the basis for the term akhlāq.
