The title given to the phrase ‘Allāhu Akbar’, which translates to ‘God is greater (than can be described).’

 Takbīr is the opening phrase of the adhān (call to prayer), is a portion of the tasbīḥ of Lady Fāṭimah az-Zahra (ʿa), and is an essential component of ṣalāh (ritual prayers). When takbīr is recited to begin a prayer, it is known as takbīrat al-iḥrām.
