Heedlessness; negligence.

A state of distraction where one is not mindful of Allah’s presence and their obligations to Allah. This is not the same as disbelief, where one actively rejects Allah’s existence and/or lordship. Rather, someone experiencing ghaflah would take Allah’s orders lightly, and only have God or their religion in mind at given times.

Ghaflah is considered a serious spiritual disease. In the Qurʾān, it is noted that those who lived their lives in a state of ghaflah will have regret on the Day of Judgement.

The cure for ghaflah is education, supplication, and all the actions that build its opposite, taqwā (God-consciousness).
