A phrase which means: ‘All praise is for God’, sometimes translated as ‘thank God’.
This phrase has 3 parts:
Al = All of the
Ḥamd = praise (and acknowledgment of beauty)
Lillāh = belongs solely to Allah (God).
Alḥamdulillāh is the first phrase in the Qurʾān in the first chapter, Sūrah al-Fātiḥah, after the Basmalah. It is also recited 33 times in the tasbīḥ of Lady Fāṭimah az-Zahrāʾ (ʿa).
